Wheres My guard card?
Q. I attended the Initial Guard Card class but have not received my Guard Card, how come?
A. Did you complete the following steps:
1. Take the Initial Guard Card Class.
2. Submit the Initial Guard Card application electronically and
pay BSIS their $55 fee.
3. Pick a live scan place and pay them the $76 to do your
background check.
If any of the above steps have not been completed BSIS can not process your application which will cause a delay. Complete any step you did not take care of to get your application back on track.
Q. I completed all three steps now what?
A. Now your part is complete, BSIS has an average processing time of 6 weeks for the Guard Card permit however, the permit has the ability to clear sooner if nothing causes a delay. Your welcome to check BSIS's website to see if your Guard Card permit has been processed yet.
Q. How do I check to see if my guard card license has been issued by BSIS?
A. You may click hear,
Type in your name, and hit enter.
If it has cleared, and a license number has been assigned to you,
you will see your name and city.
Click on your name and you may print the page.
Its called an interim license,
you may start working with the interim license while waiting to
receive your card in the mail.
Q. What If its been a long time and I keep checking the web site and my name Isn't there?
A. You may contact BSIS by calling 1 - 800 - 952 - 5210 tell them you would like to check on the status of your guard card. BSIS processes a lot of people so be prepared to be on hold for a while to talk with some one.
Q. What If I call them and something Is wrong? They don't have my paperwork?

Where is My Firearms Permit?
Q. I attended the Initial Firearms class but have not received my Firearms Card, how come?

1. Take and pass the Firearms Assessment with PSI.
2. Take, complete and pass both days of the Initial Firearms Class.
3. Submit the Initial Firearms application electronically and
pay BSIS their $100 fee.
4. Pick a live scan place and pay them the $117 to do your
background check and Firearms Eligibility.
If any of the above steps have not been completed BSIS can not process your application which will cause a delay. Complete any step you did not take care of to get your application back on track.
Q. I completed my assessment exam now what?
A. Now you need to complete any of the remaining steps above that have yet to be completed.
Note: The assessment must be completed prior to submitting an Application for an Initial Firearms Permit
Q. I completed all the steps now what?
A. If you have completed all steps and passed both the Firearms Assessment and Background Check, the state will process your application, issue you a license number and you will receive your permit in the mail.

Q. What happens if I fail the assessment exam?
A. If you for any reason do not pass the assessment exam, you have the option to retake the assessment 180 days after receiving a “did not demonstrate” result.
Note: The 180-waiting period begins the day after you complete your assessment.
